Many people asked for it, we built it: search for sites and videos on the Bemba site. There’s a search box on every page on bemba.com, at the top right of the page.

I like this!
Found a website or video on Bemba that you like? Show your appreciation! Every shared page starts with ‘1 like’ and people can add Likes to it, simply by clicking the on the ‘1 like’ link. Or click the ‘I like this!’ link on the details page.

Edit option
Forgot to select a Topic? Have a mistype in the comment? You can now edit your shared pages. Simply click the ‘Edit’ link on your details page.

Track clicks
Just recently we launched Bemba Statistics: free link sharing statistics. You can see – in real-time – how many times people clicked on the links you share on Facebook, Hyves, Twitter, your blog and Bemba. Now we track all the clicks in your Bemba RSS feed too.

Thumbnails & user comment
The Bemba application generates a thumbnail for every website or video that is shared. These thumbnails really enhance the user experience on Facebook and on the Bemba site (read our blog post about Sharing on Facebook). The thumbnail is now also present in the RSS feed.

When you share a site or video with Bemba you can add a short comment. Don’t ask why, but the comment was never in the RSS feed! Our mistake, and we corrected this mistake today.

Wave 3 surveyed 17,000 internet users in 2 countries and was completed in March 2008. Since Wave 1 in September 2006 the research has created genuine insights on the patterns of usage. The latest report (PDF) demonstrates the continued growth of social media, the impacts of this are huge.

What’s so interesting?

1. Not surprisingly, we see lot’s of Bemba users sharing videos on their social platforms. Especially the more average internet users. It’s good to read that video clips are the quickest growing platform.
2. People use Bemba to share on the social platforms they already use with their friends. Many people have joined a social network and lots use this space for sharing videos.
3. Bemba offers seamless integration for shared websites and videos on social networks and (micro-) blogs. Widgets is one way to do it and people are getting used to this solution.
4. Blogs are popular social platforms for both writers and readers. They are a great place to share ideas, stories, photos as well as websites and online videos.
5. Seeding branded content will be a relevant revenue maker for Bemba. After Aaron’s presentation at The Next Web Conference, Mike Butcher wrote about Bemba: “Business model is ads on Bemba.com, contextual targeting etc etc. Their better is the branded content marketers could seed into the network.”

• 394 million watch video clips online
• 346 million read blogs/ weblogs
• 321 million read personal blogs/ weblogs
• 307 million visit a friend’s social network page

Statistics dashboard
The Stats front page provides an overview of recent click activity. The main view here is ‘past 7 days’, so you can see if clicks are going up or down. If you use Bemba to share on multiple social platform you’ll love the graph that shows the clicks per social platform per day. Here’s what this might look like:

The dashboard provides six graphs/tables:

• Total clicks in the past 7 days
• Clicks per social platform in the past 7 days
• Total clicks for your 5 most recent Shared Pages (we call links Shared Pages)
• Clicks for your 5 most clicked Shared Pages of all time
• Clicks per social platform in past 7 days
• Clicks on Bemba in past 7 days

Zoom in on the details
For every link you share with friends  Bemba creates a Stats Details page containing six graphs/tables:

• Clicks in first 24 hours
• Clicks in past 7 days
• Clicks per social platform in past 7 days
• Clicks on Bemba in past 7 days
• Top 10 Referers outside Bemba.com
• Top 10 Referers on Bemba.com

How Bemba tracks clicks
Bemba creates a short URL (ie. http://bemba.com/b/13674)  and inserts this everywhere: on Facebook, Twitter, Bemba.com, Hyves, and in the Bemba blog widget. Every time someone clicks the link, we do ‘+1’ in our database and immediately send the user to the destination url (via 301 redirect). It’s fast, simple and effective.

Google Chart API
All line graphs are created on the fly using the sweet Google Chart API. The Bemba Stats webpages simply requests a PNG image from the Google Chart API server and Google returns the PNG instantly. It works like a charm.

Google Chart API

Bemba will instantly post a story in your Mini-Feed on Facebook, including a small screenshot/thumbnail of the web page or video. This is what it will look like:

Start sharing: instructions for Facebook users
Simply sign up on Bemba.com, add the Bemba button to your browser and connect Bemba to your Facebook. This only takes a minute and is very easy. When you connect Bemba to your Facebook, you will be redirected to a page on Facebook where you add the Bemba Application. That’s all!
From now on you can share your web discoveries with friends on Facebook using the Bemba button in your browser. You’ll soon find out it’s a really intuitive and pleasant way to share on Facebook.

Start sharing: instructions for Bemba users
Active on Bemba and have a Facebook account too? Great! Go to this page and click the big button. You will be redirected to a page on Facebook where you need to add the Bemba Application. That’s all!
